In the third episode of the series with Derik White, the discussion delves into the importance of virtual reality and simulation training in public safety and forensic technology. Derik shares personal experiences, such as visiting a simulation range with his daughter, which highlighted the critical need for training that builds muscle memory similar to that of flight simulators used in aviation. He emphasizes the value of making mistakes in a controlled environment to better prepare for real-life scenarios.

Derik recounts the development of various products like Fire Zone and Crime Zone, and the realization that crash reconstruction software had greater demand than initially anticipated. He discusses the integration of tools for both crash and crime scene reconstruction, emphasizing the importance of adapting technology to meet the evolving needs of public safety professionals.

The conversation also touches on the flexibility of CAD software, which Derik has used creatively in various projects beyond its traditional applications, like designing his own house and creating custom greeting cards. Throughout the episode, Derik stresses the need for continuous learning, validation, and improvement of forensic technology tools to ensure they remain effective and user-friendly.
