"It doesn't matter where we start, we're just at the right place, just like bamboo"
Dr. Benjamin Freud is the Head of Upper School at Green School, Bali, where he is responsible for guiding and enriching the Middle and High School learning programme in line with Green School’s holistic and sustainability-centered educational philosophy, as well as providing leadership and day-to-day management of the Upper School learning neighborhood faculty and staff.

Benjamin is also the Co-Founder of Coconut Thinking, an advisory that supports schools and learning organizations to co-create, co-develop, co-stress test, and co-implement ideas that nurture the conditions for emergent learning. Coconut Thinking believes that learning reaches its highest quality when it contributes to the thriving bio-collective—every living thing that has an interest in the healthfulness of the planet.

Prior to joining Green School Bali, Benjamin served as the Whole School Director of Learning for Prem Tinsulanonda International School in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Before Prem, Benjamin worked at schools in Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong managing day-to-day operations, developing curriculum, teaching and nurturing an entrepreneurial spirit in his learners.

Born in Paris, France, Benjamin moved to the United States when he was 15 years old. As an adult, he has spent time in various countries including the UK, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and, most recently, Thailand. He began his career in the late 1990’s as a consultant for internet start-ups in Silicon Valley, working with individuals who aimed to change the world. The experience had a profound impact on his outlook regarding the power of education, innovation and entrepreneurship to have a positive impact on people and the planet.

Benjamin holds a Ph.D. in History, an MSc in Education, an MBA and an MA in International Relations along with postgraduate degrees in Leadership and Innovation and Design Thinking.
