Poltergeist meaning..

The word poltergeist comes from the German poltern, 'to make sound, to rumble,' and Geist, 'ghost, spirit.' The term itself translates as 'noisy ghost', 'rumble-ghost', or a 'loud spirit'.

One of the tricks a poltergeist is known for is making "knocking" noises, so it will come as no surprise to learn that the word poltergeist translates literally from German as "knocking spirit." The German verb poltern means "to knock," and Geist is the German word for "spirit."

Yes, we have finally decided to look at everyone's favourite, the Poltergeist. Of course, we couldn't just take a run-of-the-mill look at them. Oh no, we decided to take a deep dive and question whether poltergeists are something special or just another ghost with added oomph!!

Poltergeist hauntings are often some of the most intense and terrifying haunting experiences. We will not deny that but do these intense hauntings need their unique label? Are poltergeists something completely separate from the average haunting experience?

Some schools of thought believe that Poltergeist is a convenient label to attach to specific hauntings. Others believe poltergeist hauntings follow a set process or go through certain stages. We share a few of our thoughts and tell a few haunting stories related to poltergeist experiences to let you all decide what you think about poltergeists. We would love you to tell us your theories or, better yet, share your own ghostly experiences with us.
