Pediatric Hypertension: Clinical Approaches to Management

Target Audience This activity is targeted toward primary care physicians and advanced providers.

Statement of Need This program will be a continuation of the discussion on pediatric hypertension. A prior podcast discussed the symptoms and diagnosis. This podcast will focus on effective treatment strategies. With the increase of childhood obesity and other risk factors, research has concluded a direct correlation to an increase in high blood pressure. According to the CDC, approximately 20% of children less than 19 are considered obese. https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/childhood.html

Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:

  • Define Stages 1 and 2 of hypertension for adolescent patients.
  • Discuss strategies to effectively manage pediatric hypertension; including lifestyle management and pharmacological.
  • Describe the long-term implications on patient's health if pediatric hypertension is untreated.
