As sex workers, we aware of how much our stories and lived experiences can get twisted in the media, in research, and in general society. How can we best portray ourselves and put our trust into documentarians, filmmakers, and academia? In this episode, I bring on Em Vaughn, a filmmaker and sex worker, about the importance of ethical storytelling in the sex work industry. We discuss the evolution of her podcast, Madam: The Podcast, the significance of community, and the challenges faced in documenting the experiences of sex workers. Em shares her journey into sex work, her transition to massage work, and her aspirations in filmmaking, emphasizing the need for authentic representation and the ethical considerations and responsibility involved in telling these stories.
