The Paternoster was a Medieval prayer tradition, where an individual would pray the Our Father or Lord’s Prayer repeatedly in lieu of the 150 Psalms that the medieval monastics recited daily. In Latin the Our Father is Pater Noster and over time the prayer began to be simply referred to as the Paternoster. For many Western medieval Christian’s, the Paternoster was the center of their prayer and devotional life. Today, however, it has been largely forgotten in modern Christianity.
So, I created the Paternoster Project! Inspired by this ancient prayer tradition, everyday we will be praying decades of our Fathers, followed by a Glory Be and then a Scripture Meditation. The hope of the Paternoster Project is to encourage your prayer life and aid in your memorization of the Scripture as well.
