Manage episode 191458861 series 78029
This week on Breaking Par with Bernard Sheridan we interview Monte Scheinblum the son of a Major League Baseball player, Monte aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps, until a major elbow injury and reconstruction at age fifteen forced him to give up baseball for golf. Monte’s early success in the game eventually led him to UCLA, where he played golf for the Bruins before turning professional.
After an impressive career as a long drive champion and trick shot exhibitionist, Monte became a full-time professional tournament player, with the goal of eventually playing on the PGA Tour. He played on the Web.com (then Nike) tour for a number of years, and suffered through several close calls at the second stage of PGA Qualifying School. These disappointments led Monte on a quest to perfect his swing mechanics, enlisting many famous instructors and methods along the way.
Monte’s quest for perfect swing mechanics failed to produce the results he wanted on tour, but it led to some critical realizations regarding the golf swing. After fifteen years as a full-time professional golfer, Monte began teaching to share what he learned and prevent others from making the mistakes he made.
Today, Monte teaches golfers of all ability levels, from the earliest beginners to top juniors, college players and PGA Tour players, and has given more than 2,500 online lessons. He remains highly competitive in both long drive and tournament golf to this day.
