We’ve seen just about every type of scenario from working with thousands of people over decades, but there are some things that we’ve never heard someone tell us.

The statements we’re going to share on the show today just don’t make a lot of sense, which is why a client has never told us these things. Let’s talk about why we don’t hear these and explain some of the planning strategies might use so you won’t need to say these things to your advisor.

Here are some of the statements we’ll discuss in this episode:

  • “I should have spent more and saved less over the years.” (1:07)
  • “The life insurance payout I got was a little insulting.” (4:05)
  • “It makes me feel patriotic to pay more in taxes than I have to.” (6:25)
  • “I love market volatility. It’s like a really fun roller coaster.” (9:21)

Retirement is often seen as a time to relax and finally enjoy the fruits of decades of hard work. But for many retirees, the idea of completely stepping away from work is not appealing. Instead, they are finding ways to stay busy, contribute to their communities, and even enhance their retirement experience through part-time jobs. In this episode, we dive into the growing trend of retirees taking on part-time work. Whether it's out of financial necessity or a desire to stay active, many retirees are discovering that part-time jobs offer a host of benefits beyond just a paycheck. One fascinating story we discuss is that of a married couple who turned their part-time jobs in the travel industry into a way to fund their retirement adventures. But part-time work in retirement isn't just about financial benefits. It can also provide a sense of purpose and community. Many retirees find joy in volunteer work or mission-based travel, where they can use their skills and experience to make a positive impact on others. Whether it's coaching a sports team, teaching English abroad, or participating in church missions, these opportunities allow retirees to stay active and engaged while giving back. For those considering part-time work in retirement, flexibility is key. Having a solid financial plan in place can provide the freedom to choose jobs that are fulfilling and enjoyable, rather than out of necessity. At Palante Wealth, we emphasize the importance of comprehensive retirement planning, addressing not just finances but also health, relationships, and personal development. Here’s some of what we discuss in this episode: 0:00 – Intro 1:16 – Travel perks & part-time work 3:38 – Trend of older workers 7:52 – What clients typically do 12:01 – Two places to look for work 16:19 – Tips for finding work About Retirease Radio: Retirease Radio is hosted by Victor J. In the bustling world of parenting, where the to-do list seems never-ending, there’s a new beacon of hope — grandparents. Being a grandparent can have a significant impact on the success and health of one's retirement, and today we’re going to talk about the physical, emotional, and financial benefits. Being an active and engaged grandparent can have numerous benefits, which we’ll dive into by discussing a study from Finland. It provides an opportunity to remain involved with younger generations, stay mentally sharp, and maintain an active lifestyle. Grandparents also have the chance to pass on wisdom and create lasting memories with their grandchildren. Additionally, there are financial benefits, such as the ability to provide support and assistance to family members while still alive, and the potential for reduced expenses by engaging in activities with grandchildren that don't require significant spending. Join us as we talk about the important role that grandparents play and explain how it fits into our Retirease approach to retirement. Here’s some of what we discuss in this episode: 00:00 - Introduction and the Impact of Being a Grandparent on Retirement Success 01:44 - The Benefits of Active and Engaged Grandparenting 04:44 - Passing on Wisdom and Creating Lasting Memories 15:51 - Financial Benefits of Being a Grandparent See the study here: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00324728.2023.2287493 About Retirease Radio: Retirease Radio is hosted by Victor J. Life happens. It’s such a simple but complicated statement because no one know what life will throw at us. The good and bad often comes at the most unexpected times and that makes planning very difficult. The good news is a comprehensive retirement plan prepares for what we know and is built to adapt to the events we can’t predict. In this episode, let’s go through some situations that require a little bit of extra attention and assessment in your overall retirement plan. If you haven’t taken the time to review the possibility of these in your life, make that a priority for 2024 so you don’t have to worry about being caught off-guard financially. Here’s some of what we discuss in this episode: If you’re leaving an old job, discuss what to do with the assets in your old employer’s retirement account. Then look for Roth options with the new company. What are you facing if you get laid off or fired unexpectedly? The financial burden that comes along with the death of a spouse.
