Susanne struggled with her weight for most of her adult life, losing and re-gaining the same 30-odd lbs over and over and over. She tried several diets, including Weight Watchers, calorie counting, and keto. Although she lost weight with all the diets, none of them were sustainable, and the calorie counting, macro tracking, and food restrictions made her miserable. In 2019, she tried intermittent fasting and lost 38 lbs (17kg). Her weight before IF generally ranged from about 220 lbs (100kg) to 180 lbs (81kg). At 5’9” tall (1.75m) this had put her in the overweight to obese range for many years. After a slight adjustment in her maintenance routine, she has successfully kept the weight off and has settled in at 160-165 lbs (72-75kg), a weight she had not seen since her late 20s. Although she started fasting for the weight loss, she has kept doing it for the many health improvements that fasting brought to her life. These included:

· a reduction in blood pressure and resting heart rate,

· the elimination of plantar fasciitis, which she had since her 20s,

· the elimination of dry eyes, which she had since her 30s,

· the elimination of keratosis pilaris (red bumps on skin) which she had since her teens,

· significant reduction in joint pain and foot calluses.

On most days, Susanne sticks to one meal a day (dinner) and generally eats between 5 and 9 pm. She is thrilled to have ditched the counting and tracking!

Susanne is a retired scientist and medical writer. She and her husband spent nearly two years as nomads in the US and then New Zealand before moving to New Zealand in 2022. She’s a big fan of travelling, languages, pilates, hiking, gardening, cooking, wine, and dogs.
