There’s usually only two options: you’re either the sensible saver or the carefree spender in a relationship. No matter which side of the fence you sit on, talking about finances with your partner might sound like the stuff of nightmares! But here to wake you up this week is Karen Hackman, a finance coach who specialises in that sometimes awkward conversation of finances in a relationship - and how to do it without arguing. After many years of fighting endlessly with her husband about their spending habits, Karen realised there were limited resources available for couples in the same situation. So she decided to create her own supportive space, and began offering one-on-one coaching programs alongside free resources to encourage couples to become financially literate in a healthy way. We discuss everything from when to mix your finances as a couple, taking on your partner's debt, and how to celebrate the savings wins and make finances fun again!
We’re breaking down:
💸 Clear and honest communication methods to avoid repeating the same argument
💸 Balancing between the ‘spending’ and ‘saving’ mentalities in relationships
💸 How to share finances, from early-stage dating to long-term marriage
💸 Practical tools for simple and actionable finance management
Listen in this week as we learn the art of conversation, and how being flexible and understanding of your partner’s financial needs can lead to your relationship and teamwork becoming stronger than ever.
If you and your partner are in desperate need of an umpire in your financial discussions, head to Karen’s website to book a complimentary call: https://moneyandmarriage.net/work-with-me
To help build your own financial tracking habits, Karen also has a free budget guide for couples who want to start a healthy conversation: https://moneyandmarriage.net/freebies
And if you want to hear more tips or ask Karen any of your burning financial questions, head to her social media or email her directly: hello@moneyandmarriage.net
