If you've ever felt like the intuitive eating framework just doesn't resonate with you as it's presented in the books, then this episode is for you! This week, we're offering some different perspectives and ways to practice each principle that you might not find in the book, and that we’ve found through years of practicing on our own and working with clients. These hot tips and hot takes might be just what you need if you've been feeling stuck or like something's missing from your practice. We're talking about: Why it's so important to keep coming back to work on rejecting the diet mentality & unpacking our fears about fatness alongside each of the other principles How to make honoring our hunger feel less like a pass/fail test What we should really be focusing on when we're working on feeling fullness Why emotional eating might actually be helping us The importance of doing this work on both a personal level and an interpersonal level And one way that many of us accidentally turn the intuitive eating framework into another set of food & exercise rules And if you want to get some support in this work, Naomi has a few options for you! She has 3 spots open for 1:1 Intuitive Eating & Anti-Diet coaching ! She also offers individual pay-what-you-can coaching calls called Mindset Reset calls . And if you do want to get some support in this work, Naomi has a few options for you! She has 3 spots open for 1:1 Intuitive Eating & Anti-Diet coaching ! What if the body positivity movement you know today is actually working against its original goals? In this episode, we're talking about how the body positivity movement, initially focused on fat liberation and dismantling oppressive systems, has been hijacked by mainstream culture. Learn how today's body positivity often centers on privileged bodies, sidelining those it was meant to uplift, including fat, disabled, and BIPOC individuals. We're talking about: how mainstream body positivity can uphold & sometimes even strengthen the oppressive narratives of diet culture the harsh realities faced by people in larger bodies when it comes to accessible clothing & public spaces the economic & social justice implications of these exclusions how the lack of inclusivity in fashion & essential public spaces not only impacts personal aesthetics but also creates significant barriers in employment & daily life weight bias in the medical field & beyond, and how weight stigma leads to inferior healthcare & delayed treatments. how anti-fat bias seeps into employment, education, and even the judicial system, with shocking statistics about wage disparities & job discrimination. This episode is a powerful call to move beyond superficial body positivity towards true body liberation and fat positivity, advocating for systemic change and inclusivity. We're digging into all the nuances of whether or not Intuitive Eating is really for everyone, including: whether you need to lose weight first; whether you can practice Intuitive Eating if you have a medical condition; how Intuitive Eating might work for folks in eating disorder recovery; and whether Intuitive Eating is actually accessible for folks from marginalized communities or who are experiencing financial insecurity or food insecurity. This week, we're coming in hot with a breakdown of Oprah, Ozempic, and ob*sity.... oh my! A couple of weeks ago, Oprah did a TV special called “Shame, Blame & the Weight Loss Revolution," which was basically an hour-long infomercial for weight loss drugs. In this episode, we talk about: Oprah's history with diet culture & moral panic The difference between Oprah exercising her own body autonomy vs. going on TV to promote her diets A breakdown & critique of all the main points of the special (so you don't have to watch it!) And why framing ob*sity as a disease is both incorrect and a money-making tool for multiple industries. Note: This episode doesn't do much of a deep dive about Ozempic & GLP-1 drugs themselves because we already did a whole episode on that!
