Cracking Care Home Menus - A Special Podcast with British Lion Eggs
Manage episode 451852338 series 2828418
“Go to work on an egg” – perfect advice for care homes
The humble British egg has had a tough time of it in the last thirty years or more.
But the British egg is back in a big way. Packed with protein and vitamins but no sugar, it is playing a vital part on the care home menu – both as a cooked item in its own right or as part of dishes such as ice cream, cakes and mayonnaise.
In this special podcast we talk to British Lion Eggs about the importance of protein in residents' diets. Many residents are of an age where they remember how good eggs can be for their health.
Join food safety and hygiene specialist, Dr Lisa Ackerley and specialist older person’s dietitian, Alison Smith as they discuss how the protein provided by eggs helps older people in care homes guard against some of the problems increasing frailty can bring.
Of course, eggs must be cooked properly!
