Nutritional psychiatry is an emerging field that examines the connection between food and mental health. Research shows that a healthy diet can improve symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. Nutritional psychiatry aims to incorporate dietary interventions as a part of mental health treatment. By identifying the specific nutrients and dietary patterns that affect mental health, patients can make informed decisions about their diet to support their mental health.
From his book, Your Vitamins are Obsolete:
"Over the past fifty years, increasingly processed food has had its natural bioactive vitamins stripped out while having the synthetic forms substituted back in through fortification and supplementation. These artificial vitamins are poorly made, poorly absorbed, and poorly utilized, eventually being just flushed away unused.

It is this nutritional deficiency that is exacerbating the universal illness of chronic inflammation which contributes to the onset of depression, dementia, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, etc. What I explain in the book is the newly understood mechanism by which this occurs by focusing on the two most essential of the essential vitamins—B12 and folate."
