What is self-sabotage? Self-sabotage means that you might have some self-destructive behaviors or patterns that affect you in a negative way. A negative mindset can lead you to a lack of belief in yourself or have a mindset that you are flawed or that there’s something wrong with you.

If you have these strong and negative beliefs about yourself, then unconsciously, you might be doing things to hurt you or set you back because it reconfirms the belief you have about yourself. We sometimes even use our limiting beliefs to try and control a situation or to make us feel empowered. If we internally feel like we don’t deserve a good partner, for example, then we will find someone who won’t treat us well.

What does it look like to self-sabotage? It can mean that you don’t have strong boundaries or internally, you know something isn’t good for you, but you continue to do it anyway. When we consistently engage in a routine of self-sabotage, then it can lead to depression, anxiety, and even burnout. We can even try to soothe ourselves by trying to escape through eating, drugs, alcohol, and more. Self-sabotage keeps you down from living your true potential.
