After four years of doing her PhD (Political Science, York University, Toronto), Jelena Vesić decided to walk away and dedicate herself full-time to teaching Ashtanga Yoga workshops and retreats in Toronto and around the world. She’s so deeply committed to the practice she’s made two trips to Mysore, India to study with her teacher, Sharath Jois. Jelena approaches yoga and her life with immense cultural humility, embodying the true meaning of what it means to be a yogi. In our conversation for the Women’s Liberation Summit, we explored the following:

1) Quitting can be the most liberating thing you can do

2) Yoga can serve as a pathway to your humanity

3) Vulnerability is key to draw you into your purpose

4) Ashtanga yoga provides an opening for your thoughts and feelings

5) If your mindfulness practice isn’t propelling you to take action, then something is missing
