Ep#117 Today’s episode shines the light on a whole new way to understand compulsive overeating and that’s through the lens of food addiction. Research suggests something more complex might be going on with some foods that we eat that affect the brain’s reward system similarly to the way addictive drugs do. When addiction is the underlying cause of obesity, traditional treatment with diets that rely on personal responsibility, lifestyle changes or “willpower”can have minimal effects.
Today’s guest is a visionary and leader in the field of food addiction. She is Susan Peirce Thompson, Ph.D.Adjunct Associate Professor of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Rochester, and an expert in the psychology of eating. She is a best selling author with 3 books, Bright Line Eating: The Science of Living Happy, Thin, and Free”., "The Official Bright Line Eating Cookbook - Weight Loss Made Simple", and her newest book, "Rezoom: The Powerful Reframe to end the Crash-and-Burn Cycle of Food Addiction.”

Susan is President of the Institute for Sustainable Weight Loss and CEO of Bright Line Eating Solutions (BLE), a company dedicated to helping people achieve long-term, sustainable weight loss by showing you how to rewire your brain and break the yo-yo diet cycle. BLE is geared towards those who are susceptible to addictive foods and have struggled to find peace and sanity around food.
Grounded in psychology and neuroscience Susan’s program uses cutting edge research to explain how modern processed foods impact the addiction centers of the brain. The complete opposite of the deprivation diet mindset, Bright Line Eating seeks to empower people for life, by creating a supportive community to heal the deeper emotional components that underlie addictive behaviors by integrating the tools of Positive Psychology and Internal Family Systems.

But Bright Line Eating is more than just a way of eating—it’s a movement. Their incredibly close-knit Online Support Community is the core of their program and provides the outreach and human connection essential to success. Thousands of people from more than 60 countries have participated in their information packed online courses, and their community is growing by tens of thousands each month.
