Dr. Jill Harris, PhD and Dr. Nola Agha, PhD are economists with broad research agendas in sports economics. You first heard them back in episode 7 where we had a conversation about The Wage Gap in Sports. They return to the Podcast to discuss an update to the Women’s National Team Class action lawsuit, the recent settlement, and the potential impact to other sports.
We talk about the new Name Image and Likeness (NIL) ruling with the NCAA and the benefits, potential drawbacks, and open questions for student athletes.
We discuss “Pay-for-Play” which involves potentially paying athletes outright. The economists discuss the validity of Pay-for-Play and provide an overview of the common rebuttals to the proposed solution.
We talk about the 50th anniversary of Title IX and the economists discuss its legacy and issues that persist as it relates to increased participation and involvement in women’s sports.
