What held Moses back from answering the call of God on his life?
What God thought about Moses, what other people thought about Moses, and what Moses thought about Moses were entirely different things.
Moses had a great and mighty calling to deliver God's people out of bondage.
Moses was a leader.
Moses was shepherding souls in the wilderness.
Moses was a prophet.
Moses was called to instruct, lead, disciple, and correct people to their promise.
Stephen said this about Moses:
"And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds." (Acts 7:22)
But Moses said this about himself:
“O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” (Exodus 4:10)
So Stephen said Moses was mighty in word and deed, but Moses said he was slow of speech (not eloquent) and slow of tongue?
Moses delivered many powerful messages to God's people.
What Moses thought about himself didn't matter to God.
God said to Moses:
“Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” ((Exodus 4:11)
Here are Moses' 2 main issues that held him back from answering God's call:
1. Self Abasement: the belittling or humiliation of oneself
humiliation of oneself: causing yourself to feel ashamed and foolish by injuring your dignity and self respect
belittle: dismissive of your importance
Self Abasement is NOT humility, repentance, or confession of sin.
It's a lack of vision to see who God says you are in Christ
2. Guilty fear: result of estrangement from God
estrangement: no longer being on friendly terms (Genesis 3:8)
Guilty fear hit Moses and he ran away into the wilderness for 40 years (Exodus 3:15)
So why am I sharing this message with you?
Because many of you have the call of Moses on your life..
To lead, shepherd, instruct, teach, disciple, and correct God's people out of their bondage, through the wilderness, and to their Promise.
But there are 2 things that may be holding you back:
1) Self Abasement
2) Guilty Fear
I pray that you can see you how God sees you, not how you see you right now in your current season of life.
God sees more than what you're capable of.
He sees what He can do through you.
“The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
(Luke 18:27)
