45 – Friday Fix: How Radical Acceptance Can Help You Find Peace During Difficult Times
Manage episode 379661296 series 3475432
Radical acceptance is a skill that can benefit everyone. As Marsha Linnehan, the therapist who popularized the concept of radical suffering once said, " Rejecting reality turns pain into suffering."
It's tough to accept painful situations that are unfair or circumstances that are beyond our control. But acknowledging reality is the key to healing and moving forward. That doesn't mean you have to condone someone else's bad behavior or agree to something you don't want. Acceptance just means you acknowledge the facts.
Some of the things I share are:
- How radical acceptance reduces the intensity and duration of an uncomfortable emotion
- The benefits of radical acceptance, including reduced anxiety and substance use
- How to stick to the facts
- Why it's considered a 'low effort' skill
- The exact steps you can take to practice radical acceptance
