How do you leverage positivity in your event teams? Studies have shown that being more positive, more open, with more gratitude, can really help encourage your event team, and perhaps even inspire them to dig deeper to make things happen for you and your events.
In this episode, Naomi unpacks some of the research of Barbara Fredrickson, professor and author of the book Positivity. We look at the positivity ratio, coined by Barbara Fredrickson, we see that typically many people have a ratio of 2:1. However, the standard ratio is 3:1, which means that for every one negative feeling or remark, it takes 3 positive remarks or feelings to overcome its effect.
This is a big deal because, in the world of meetings and events, stress is an understatement. We are constantly challenged with demanding timelines and high expectations, and if we aren't checking our mindset at every turn, there are bound to be some negative effects happening due to the pressure alone.
Positivity can be the superpower that helps to combat the stress, the overwhelm, and the toxic situations that occur in these deplorable situations. And if we can spread this practice and raise the bar just a little, we could see better retention in our talent and our event professionals and their clients will once more find joy in what they do.
