What if your greatest pain could become your most profound source of wisdom? Join us for an intimate conversation with Holly Higgins, a contributing author of "Wounds to Wisdom: Healing Through Veteran and First Responder Narratives." Holly shares the impactful journey of her life with a World War II veteran father who battled addiction, her initial apprehensions about the military, and the heart-wrenching experience of losing her son Daniel in Afghanistan. Holly’s story is a poignant reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is potential for healing and transformation.
In this episode, we explore the concept of grief as not just a natural response to loss but also as a profound teacher. Holly eloquently discusses how allowing ourselves to fully experience and express our grief can lead to significant turning points in our lives. Her contributions to "Wounds to Wisdom" and her ongoing work in storytelling and public speaking illuminate the strength found in vulnerability. Tune in to discover how sharing our stories can transform pain into gratitude and scars into sources of wisdom, offering hope and inspiration to anyone suffering in silence.

Holly’s son, Senior Airman Daniel J. Johnson, was killed in action in Afghanistan, and it was his tragic, untimely death that taught her that grief is not something to avoid but rather embrace. In embracing her own pain, she learned that grief is a gift. She believes it helps us to mourn our loved ones. It teaches and guides us as we navigate loss, sadness, and unspeakable tragedy. Daniel’s courage, patriotism, and integrity inspire Holly every day to live a life that is worthy of his sacrifice. He is her hero because he loved his country enough to die for it.
